A2UI and the Future of Agent Interfaces

In this guide

Most agent interfaces still return text when the user needs to choose a date, approve an action, compare options, or inspect a result. Agent-driven interfaces allow an agent to request a structured interface that the host application renders using trusted components.

What A2UI changes

A2UI is a declarative format for agent-generated interfaces. The agent describes components and data, while the client decides how approved components are rendered. The remote agent does not need to send executable HTML or JavaScript to create a useful form, card, chart, or approval surface.

Keep the client in control

Use a catalogue of pre-approved components with validation. Treat agent output as untrusted data. Validate field types, allowed actions, destinations, authentication state, and permissions. Keep a text fallback for clients that do not support the richer interface.

A remote A2A agent may complete a task while an A2UI surface presents its status or asks for approval. MCP may supply the data or tools, but UI generation must not silently grant tool authority.
